José Pepe Flores Peters

José "Pepe" Flores Peters, is one of the pioneers in the development of Internet in Chile. In 1992 as a student at the Computer Science Department of Universidad de Chile, Pepe produced the fast adoption of these technologies, leading to a series of initiatives: the first site in Chile and in Latin America (www.dcc.uchile.cl), and Alumnomático (information for the students at his university), among others.

In 1995, Pepe and other entrepreneurs co-founded Tecnonáutica, a company oriented to developing forefront projects using the latest technologies. "Tecnonautas", those that explore technologies, are responsible for innumerable advances in the field:

  • the first site with connection to Web Data Bases (prochile.cl 1995),
  • the first autogenerated newspaper (chip.cl 1995),
  • La Tercera Newspaper (the most visited website in Chile, COPESA Holding),
  • the first application for supply chains (Codelco CHILE 1997),
  • Other 30 developments.

With more experience and know-how, Tecnonáutica reoriented efforts to the development of its own companies (start-ups), incorporating partners with financial experience who, in addition, contributed with capital.

Tecnonáutica, created four start-ups: elpanal.com (first marketplace b2b, in 1999), poligrafo.com (website rating), Publimático (booth for public access to Internet) and the Supply System of the State of Chile.

The development of these companies attracted the interest of the Telefónica Group which became a strategic partner with Tecnonáutica. In July 2000, Telefónica CTC Chile became the sole owner of Tecnonáutica and its associated companies.

Today, Pepe Flores is getting ready to ride the second stage of Internet, spending his time studying Technologies, Biology, History and the development of companies which have economic, political and social impact.
